八达岭长城点亮绿色，2014爱尔兰“绿动全球”欢庆圣帕特里克节

3月17日凌晨零点，北京八达岭长城点亮绿色，变身“绿色长城”以庆祝爱尔兰国庆“圣帕特里克节”，使之成为爱尔兰旅游局2014“绿动全球”的地标之一。

与爱尔兰紧密联系的绿色长久以来都是这一节庆的传统特色。近年来，世界各地的许多地标性建筑都在圣帕特里克节点亮绿色灯光以示庆祝。

大家知道爱尔兰是翡翠绿岛，不仅是因为这里令人惊叹的美丽风景，还因为这里的纯净自然、绿色环境孕育了丰富健康且可持续发展的食品行业。爱尔兰同时也是一个现代化的绿色岛屿，这里有尖端的洁净技术公司，帮助世界变得更为环保和绿色。

点绿八达岭长城反映了中国与爱尔兰两国之间良好的双边关系以及两国人民之间的友谊源远流长。北京与爱尔兰的首都都柏林是姐妹城市，这同时也展示了北京市政府的友谊与团结。

爱尔兰旅游局“绿动全球”年度庆典活动不断壮大，目前已有超过100个地标建筑或标志性场地加入到今年的点绿活动。

今年加入爱尔兰“绿动全球”的地标阵容可谓星光熠熠，中国八达岭长城、悉尼歌剧院、列为联合国世界遗产的约旦古城佩特拉（Petra）、埃及吉萨金字塔（Pyramids of Giza）以及纽约帝国大厦都会参与2014爱尔兰“绿动全球”庆典活动。

在上海，东方明珠广播电视塔及浦东香格里拉酒店以及位于世博会原址的梅赛德斯奔驰文化中心都将点亮绿色灯光以庆祝圣帕特里克节，同时著名的广州塔也将点绿珠江。

The iconic Great Wall at Badaling is going green at 0:00 on 17March in celebration of Ireland’s National Day, St Patrick’s Day – joining Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening 2014.

Green is the colour closely associated with Ireland and therefore a prominent feature of the St Patrick’s Day celebrations around the world.

Ireland is traditionally known as the Green Island because of the striking beauty of its landscape, but also because of its clean, green environment, which supports a thriving and sustainable food industry. Ireland is also the modern Green Island, which, thanks to its cutting-edge clean technology companies, is helping to make the world a greener place.

The greening of the Great Wall at Badaling reflects the excellent bilateral relations between China and Ireland and between the peoples of both countries. It is a remarkable gesture of friendship and solidarity on the part of the Municipal Government of Beijing, which is twinned with Ireland’s capital, Dublin.

The Embassy of Ireland in Beijing and the Tourism Ireland team in China have worked together to realise the greening, with the support also of the Government of Yanqing County and the Great Wall at Badaling.

Tourism Ireland’s annual Global Greening initiative has gone from strength to strength, with more than 100 landmark buildings and iconic sites around the world signed up to take part this year.

Among the world famous monuments which will join the Great Wall at Badalin of China in turning green are the Sydney Opera House, the Treasury in the ancient city of Petra, Jordan, the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt and the Empire State Building in New York.

In Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl Radio and TV Tower, the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel and the Mercedes Benz arena on the Expo site will turn green in celebration, while in Guangzhou the famous Canton Tower will also be illuminated in green.
