History

The name Piemonte comes from medieval Latin "ad pedem montium", meaning"atthefootofthemountain“.IntheRoman period itbecame a military citadel and in 28 BC, under Augustus, the city became AugustaTaurinorum

In 1861 Turin became the capital of the newly proclaimed United Italy. In 1865 the capital wasmoved to Florence. Since 8th July 1871 the capital has been RomeP
